Charlie is a compassionate leader who is focused on continually driving the growth of volleyball and beach volleyball. He is a successful recruiter and trainer, having spent time coaching in both the high school and collegiate levels. Charlie attended California State University, Chico, where he played on the men’s club volleyball team for four seasons. As a senior, he earned All-American honors at the national tournament as a middle blocker. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Marketing from Chico State, and earned a Master of Arts degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University, Irvine.

Most recently, Charlie has been the Director of Volleyball at the University of Louisiana Monroe as the Head Coach of both the indoor and beach volleyball programs. He came to ULM after spending the previous five seasons as an Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX. Prior to SHSU, Charlie served as a Volunteer Assistant Coach at Tennessee. Preceding collegiate coaching, he lived in Virginia Beach and was heavily involved with local volleyball clubs and competed in adult beach leagues and tournaments throughout the year.

Charlie has been involved in playing and coaching volleyball for over 20 years with stops in California, Idaho, Arizona, Virginia, Tennessee, Texas, Louisiana and Georgia. In 2012, he was the Virginia State AAA Coach of the Year after leading Floyd E. Kellam High School to a third straight state championship. Charlie met his wife, Jill, competing in a grass volleyball tournament in Virginia Beach. They are now married and have two sons, Van and Reid, and reside in Sugar Hill.
